«For us, what matters, is the embrace of the survivors, not the politicians’ catwalk»

A year after the tragedy of Lampedusa, none of the seven people in the boat of Vito Fiorino who saved 47 of the 155 survivors attended the ceremony organized by the Municipality of Lampedusa. Marcello Nizza, one of the people that saw the migrants in the sea that night, explains that despite the deaths, nothing has changed. The saviors have not even been thanked and have even been accused of being liars for having denounced the delay of the relief of the Coast Guard. The only relief is the warmth of the survivors who have returned to Lampedusa remains.
